Train Writing.

I’ve always liked writing in trains…. Of course, back in Switzerland, the longest train ride I ever took was about three hours. Now I am on the Southwest Chief, Los Angeles to Chigago, 43 hours and 5 minutes. Two characters in my next novel are taking this same train, one in 1920, the other today. So I am calling this “research”. I am taking notes. Pictures. But slowly the train ride becomes its own story. The people we meet in the dining car become part of my story by telling me theirs. Suddenly 43 hours don’t seem long enough.
